Computerized Provider Order Entry (CPOE) allows physicians and caregivers to enter medication and procedure orders directly into a computer, rather than hand-writing them in the patient chart, and then access the patient record from any web-enabled computer. The patient chart will not just be a record, but a long term electronic collaborative tool that allows the multiple clinicians and caregivers providing care to the patient to interact. The software also provides automated clinical decision support to enhance patient safety and quality. Instantly screening, for example, for allergies and possible drug interactions has proven patient benefits as well as significantly streamlining a rather lengthy process.

Centricity, the upgraded and re-branded version of the LastWord application, was successfully deployed to the enterprise at the end January 2009.
The overall objective of this project was to upgrade from the current Lastword application to the current standard release Centricity Enterprise application. This allows the organization to migrate to a vendor supported standard version of the GEHC (General Electric – Health Care) patient accounting system.
There are minimal differences in the new Centricity application.
