Feature Story: PDA support

BSDIS increasing support for certain types of PDAs

February 2007

BSDIS will be able to provide support for mobile devices that are able to sync directly with Microsoft Exchange, the new divisional email and calendaring platform.

BSDIS will assist customers with configuring compatible devices to connect to their BSD email or calendar.

BSDIS has been testing devices for several months, and has had great success with the T-Mobile MDA with an unlimited GPRS data package. For this reason, it is the preferred PDA setup for the BSD.

Other compatible devices include the Treo 650, Cingular 8525, Palm Tungsten TX, and the T-Mobile MDA and SDA. All these devices are able to connect directly to the Exchange system, and pull down mail and calendar data without having to constantly sync with a desktop.

The Blackberry is not currently in the supported category, largely due to the costs required to make them secure and fully functional in an enterprise environment. The Blackberry has also traditionally required third party software to connect to Exchange, often requiring the user to leave their desktop mail client on at all times.

The emergence of the new devices like the MDA, however, mean that customers no longer have to buy a Blackberry to stay "always connected".

Devices that sync directly with Microsoft Exchange (like the T-Mobile MDA pictured above) will be supported by BSDIS.
